Bus Trip to Sight and Sound Theater "Daniel and the Lions’ Den"
April 10th & 11th
52 members and friends of Starkdale, varying in ages from 12 to 70+, enjoyed the first of many trips planned for the “Fun in the Son”. Our trip began at 7:00 A.M., Thursday, April 10th as we departed the church parking lot on our way to Lancaster, Pennsylvania. This trip was planned around our destination for the evening, The Sight and Sound Theater, to see Daniel and the Lions’ Den.
We arrived at the Fulton Steamboat Inn, our lodging for the night. The exterior of the inn resembles an authentic steamboat, with a paddlewheel and decking. Robert Fulton, who invented the first successful steam-powered ship, was born just a few miles from the inn. After some time on our own to enjoy the pool, shopping, wine tasting, lunch or just a quick nap, everyone was anxious to leave for the theatre.
The performance began at 4:00P.M. This amazing bible-based show took place on the 300-foot wraparound stage. There were 50+ actors, spectacular special effects and live animals not to mention the music and message that made this so memorable. Dinner included several selections from a smorgasbord of homemade Amish food at the Hershey Farm Restaurant. After a much-needed night of sleep, we were treated to breakfast at Huckleberry’s before leaving for Ohio.
There was so much to see and do. Not only did we see the Amish buggies being driven, we also saw the men with their teams of horses plowing the fields. The ladies had their clothes hanging out on clothesline strung through pulley’s attached to the barns. This way they did not need clothes props. We saw one-room schoolhouses with the Amish children playing softball. We heard Amazing Grace played on a banjo, watched and admired the quilting and sampled homemade ice cream and fudge. Shopping at the outlet mall’s 200 stores, the Bird-in-Hand Farmers Market and the Kitchen Kettle Village was fit into our two-day trip. There were many unique treasures that made their way back home.
After mostly sunny, mild weather for two days, we ran into rain about an hour away from home. Two miles away from our church, the rain stopped and a beautiful, bright rainbow was welcoming us back home. As we departed the bus, the rainbow faded away as fast as it appeared.
The most important thing that we brought back from this trip was the message that will be remembered by all of us. No matter what happens in our lives, we must continue to praise and worship our GOD and that HE hears and answers all of our prayers.
We must stand strong in our faith.
Our Lord God Jesus Christ lives and we will be with HIM for eternity.
